The History of Divine Mercy Ministries

Divine Mercy Ministries was officially founded by Karla Salp in October 2006 in Central Washington State.  After returning from college to her home parish and county in 2004, she missed the spiritually enriching activities that she had enjoyed at college, and began to create Catholic materials with other women to be used in her local parishes.

It began with getting women together in the fall of 2004 to put on a women's retreat for the parishioners of Moses Lake, Ephrata, and Quincy, Washington.  Several women worked together to put on a retreat about finding joy in our everyday lives in May of 2005.  Another women's retreat was offered in May of 2006 on the Beatitudes.  Divine Mercy Ministries has held a women's retreat in Central Washington every year since then!

In 2006, out of devotion to the Divine Mercy, Karla created the website www.divinemercyministries.org in order to make retreats available to anyone who would like to use them and to distribute other free Catholic resources, including information on the Divine Mercy.  Additionally, information was added about making all-twine knotted rosaries and an online order form for all-twine knotted rosaries was added to distribute rosaries free of charge, as always.

In October and December of 2006, Karla had the opportunity to record several songs that she had written on a CD.  Once recorded, these songs were added online for people to listen to, and an order form was put online to allow people to order a free CD.

Divine Mercy Ministries has continued to grow and change over the years, following often unexpected paths that God provides.  Some things include putting up or assisting with billboards in both Washington and Ohio, creating podcasts, and delving into social media.

Social media has exponentially expanded the impact of Divine Mercy Ministries.  As of Good Friday 2014, they have more than 10,000 fans on Facebook.  Divine Mercy Ministries also runs an e-mail prayer request/prayer chain called Divine Mercy Prayer Warriors.  The internet and social media have allowed Divine Mercy Ministries to actively engage with people from around the world and include them as a very real part of the ministry.

Divine Mercy Ministries is currently run completely by volunteers but they continually believe in God's provision and know that He will provide whatever is necessary to accomplish His will with the ministry.
